Below on the left, is a map of a well established dairy farm in the Waikato. On the right is a Potassium heatmap of the same farm on a 2 ha grid, showing the QT K values in MAF units, ranging between 3 to 39 MAF units. The general recommended optimum range for soil K on NZ dairy farms, is 7-10 MAF units, with excessive levels a primary cause for metabolic problems.
With milk fever being rife this season across the North Island, it is critically important to understand how our farming practices impact on our soil and animal health. Pasture based dairy farms are complex systems and using averages and “keeping it simple” when it comes to nutrient management are most likely costing you in terms of soil health, pasture performance and nutrition. Resulting in compromised animal health and production.
At Revive Soil Solutions NZ we leverage technology and complex datasets to understand nutrient variability and interactions, resulting in tailormade solutions for every farm. Our focus is on improving efficiency and visualising our journey to deliver tangible and sustainable outcomes for our farmers.
